Like a nurturing lover from an Etta James reverie that never was, Crayon Physics Deluxe Demo holds your hand and whispers that all will be alright. And you believe it.In the horrendous field of statistics, men attempt to sap every last shred of humanity in writing that we have left and reduce us all to integers on the page. All of our beauty and truth appallingly reduced to simple medians and standard deviations and all that fucking shit.
So now comes fucking Crayon Physics Deluxe Demo, which decides to turn the physical world that we take for granted and turn it into the same shit that kids scribble on placemats at family restaurants that are always strangely vacant when you need an iced coffee at 2 a.m. after an exhibition.
The basic tacit of Crayon Physics Deluxe Demo is that you play the role of God, but in this sobering meditation on Deism and shit, God is not some kind of cosmic clockmaker, but instead a fucking little kid scribbling shit that has weight, meaning, form, and substance à la “Harold et le crayon violet”. It's a noble breath of fresh air for those of us that want some semblance of a fucking thesis in our Digital-Medium Narratives, but can Crayon Physics Deluxe Demo ride solely on premise?
Crayon Physics Deluxe Demo begins simply enough, introducing you to the building blocks that will be used to construct this intricate piece. Right off the bat you meet the ever-present symbolism of the Apple and the Star, don't let the Biblical allegory slide you by, Crayon Physics Deluxe Demo pulls no punches in crafting its dissertation.
The protagonist of Crayon Physics Deluxe Demo is an Apple fallen from the Abrahamic Tree of Knowledge, but the Apple himself has no knowledge to share, but instead must learn it by collecting the Stars. In each verse of Crayon Physics Deluxe Demo, the Apple must rely on a precocious and experimental God played by you, in order to collect these vital kernels of wisdom to construct something far grander. Think the Nestorian Stele if it was written back and forth between Kerouac and Salinger.
As God discovers and utilizes more and more of his abilities in this strange world of off-white folded paper, you progress through various other trials, basically the Labors of Herakles if they were crafted by Rogers and Maslow.
Like any Digital-Medium Narrative, you expect Crayon Physics Deluxe Demo to have some sort of concise, succinct, summarizing denouement, but no such thing occurs, thank God. Child-Brahma finishes his however many tribulations in aiding the Apple of Knowledge, and then that's it. The image of a vast sea punctuated by distant lands is displayed to you, and you are simply told that you aren't good enough to travel to those other lands. I fucking love interpretive endings, anything else seems like such a cop-out.
Crayon Physics Deluxe Demo is a must-acquire for any intellectual Digital-Medium Narrative enthusiast looking for more than a base, simplistic offering given by far too many Digital-Medium Narratives today. If you have a soul and a mind with which to drive it, Crayon Physics Deluxe Demo will move you to tears through the power of its truth, and by extension, its beauty.
